Online Appraisals An online appraisal is difficult to perform and yet it is one of the most frequently received requests. Expecting an accurate evaluation without the benefits of seeing or touching the item is really unfair to all concerned. To better help you through this process, try some of the following suggestions. If you are looking for trademark information only, that is a bit easier, but would still require that you provide some details. Take a picture of the markings on your item, or sketch them as best you can. Give all the letters and numbers that appear. Tell what is impressed, what is over the glaze, and what is under the glaze. Be my eyes! Items for evaluation should also be photographed. Show different views .front, back, sides, close-ups of the pattern or design, an artist signature, any imperfections. If the item is a set, list the number of pieces and the dimensions. Make notes about condition and appearance. If you take a look at the article on Buying China Online elsewhere on this site, you will find some helpful ways to judge your piece objectively. Again, be my eyes! Include as much information as you already know about the item, where it came from, and how you came to have it. Be realistic about the value in other words, try to detach your emotional connection to the piece. Also, be aware that there are different kinds of values .replacement cost for insurance, auction value, dealer value, etc. We will try to help you as best we can and will refer you elsewhere if need be. |
